How do I explain what I need to get done?

If you say: I want a drain.  How much is it?   This is Difficult at best.  The plumber is going to  come to your place and do a free estimate but  may be able to give you one over the phone if you describe it more accurately.

It would be better if you said:  I cannot find a drain in my basement but  I  would like one in my laundry room.  My stack  is 20 feet away from where I want the drain put in  and the floor is not finished.  It  looks like painted concrete.  My basement floor is uneven  Approximately how much would that cost?

If your basement concrete floor is uneven?  Would you like it straightened? This is not done by a plumber, but by a stone mason.  It is less expensive to have a stone mason break of your  basement floor and dig out a channel for the plumber to run his pipe and then call the plumber to  put in the drain. Then call the stone mason back to finish.  You will save lots of money and you do not need a contractor to do it.  If you cannot be bothered with it, then you can hire me to act as your contractor in this matter.  It still will be cheaper than a contractor.  Also when getting prices, everyone will tell you a different thing.  I know what I am doing.  I will tell them what you want and won't be swayed by their stories to hire them to do the whole job.
